Tooth Implants From Start To Finish
Tooth implants - titanium fixtures fitted with prosthetic teeth - can provide the safety and confidence of permanent replacement teeth. Our office performs tooth implants from start to finish, surgery through prosthetic placement and maintenance. Implants can replace a single tooth or many missing teeth.
Dr. Hellickson's extensive implant training allows him to use the best system for each patient. He has lectured widely on implant dentistry and is a graduate of the Misch Implant Institute.
Implant Dentistry Frequently Asked Questions
What is a dental implant?
The implant serves as the replacement for the root portion of a missing natural tooth. It is machined from surgical-grade titanium alloy. A dentist places the implant into either the upper or lower jawbone. After a period of time, the implant integrates with the bone and becomes a secure anchor for a replacement tooth, a fixed bridge, a removable partial, or a complete denture.
Am I a candidate?
If you are missing one or more teeth, then you may be a candidate for a tooth implant. Dental implants allow us to eat, smile and speak with more confidence.
Is the implant ever rejected by the body?
The tooth implant is machined from surgical-grade titanium alloy, which is biocompatible material. There is a possibility that it will not integrate with bone. If this would happen, the implant would be replaced with another one. It is then highly unlikely that the second implant would not integrate.
What if I smoke?
Smoking will inhibit the proper healing of the implant to some degree. This does not prevent smokers from having tooth implants successfully placed and restored.
How much time does the implant procedure take?
For a single dental implant the placement is usually completed in less than an hour. The implant is then allowed to heal in the bone for a minimum of eight weeks. The overall process can take up to 12 months or more.
How much will it cost?
Costs can vary depending on your individual needs. In general dental implants are not covered by insurance.
