General Dentistry for the Whole Family
When it's time to visit the family dentist, our comfortable, family-friendly office will help you and your child feel at home. Special features include books, video games, and cookies for the kids, a television in every exam room, and Caribou coffee for the adults. When you visit the restroom, you'll find a well-stocked lotion bar. If it's your child's first visit to the family dentist, we'll start the appointment with a special video on the computer: Kirby Goes To The Dentist.
We at the Advanced Dental Group are excited to offer to our patients the most advanced oral x-ray technology in the world, conveniently located right within our office.
Our office now utilizes a high-tech machine called an i-CAT to acquire 3-D CT scans of our patients' head and neck anatomy, specifically for dental purposes. At the current time, there are only a few hundred i-CATs in the entire world, and only 4 others in the state of MN.
The i-CAT uses cone beam volumetric technology to create 3-D data sets which identically replicate the anatomy of the head and neck in a 1:1 ratio. This data greatly assists our doctors in evaluating implant placement and restoration options, discovering pathologies, planning orthodontic procedures, aiding in extractions and analyzing airway capacity. The i-CAT provides this wealth of information in 20 seconds, with only slightly more radiation than a traditional panoramic film, making it an invaluable resource to our team.
Adding to the value of your scan, is a comprehensive reading of your entire data set by one of only two oral radiologists in the state of Minnesota. After your scan has been taken you will receive a call from your Advanced Dental Group doctor discussing your scan and explaining any findings and recommendations. You will also receive your full oral radiological report. We feel this new service will enhance even more, the level of care you receive at the Advanced Dental Group.
General dentistry can include preventative and restorative procedures. The starting point is a comprehensive examination, a process in which our doctors make many necessary notes to provide a thorough diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment plan.
- Oral Cancer Screening: If you are a tobacco or smokeless tobacco user, you are in primary danger of oral cancer. More than 8,000 deaths were attributed to oral cancer in the last year, and we feel that our duty is to prevent this deadly disease from occurring. We provide oral cancer screening during all preventative care appointments.
- Occlusal Examination: The forces of your bite can sometimes affect the positioning of the jaw and teeth. Minor polishing of the enamel surfaces or fillings of the teeth can help redistribute and redirect the biting forces.
- Temporo-Mandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMJ) Examination: TMJ is a condition that afflicts thousands of people. Frequent indicators of TMJ include popping and clicking of the jaw, limited jaw function, pain in the neck, shoulder and upper back, and pain and pressure in the face and ears. We provide conservative therapies that are proven to eradicate this painful and frustrating problem.
- Periodontal Examination: We examine the pocket depths between each tooth. Pocket depth is the length between the top of the gum and where the gum attaches to the tooth. If your pocket depth is too deep, you may be a victim of periodontal disease.
- Caries Examination: This examination is performed to find teeth that have decay and are in need of restorations or incipient lesions that can be monitored and treated with fluoride.
- Sleep Apnea and Snoring: If this is an area of concern for you, we may be able to help. Mild sleep apnea and snoring can often be treated successfully with the use of an individually adjusted, specially designed oral appliance that maintains an opened and unobstructed airway in the throat during sleep.
