Dental Crowns in Minneapolis

What Types of Crowns Are Available?
If your tooth is damaged due to decay, breakage, cracking, or has poor looks, you may need a dental crown. Minneapolis is home to our dental practice, which offers you the best in restorative dentistry. We can restore your teeth using dental crowns to cover their visible surfaces. This helps to stop the damage from spreading, protects you from infection and pain, and allows your teeth to regain their previous function. It also rebuilds your beautiful smile, thus restoring your confidence.

Our dental crowns are made from a variety of materials, including zirconium, porcelain, and gold. Zirconium crowns have the advantage of mimicking natural teeth in appearance, and biting force. Hence, they could be used both in the front of the mouth, where appearance is paramount, and in the back of the mouth, where we do most of our chewing. Full porcelain crowns are basically glass, and are very close to real teeth in appearance, but they chip comparatively easily, thus they fare best in the front of the mouth. Metal crowns tend to be stronger, resistant to chipping and kinder on opposing teeth. Hence, it is better to have them placed in the back of the mouth.

We also use CEREC, a CAD-CAM technology, in our office, which can fit a crown over your tooth in one single visit. Traditionally, the typical crown preparation method requires two visits. For the one visit CEREC crown, we shape the tooth and then use a high-resolution camera to photograph it. Next, we use our CEREC computer to design and produce your crown. The crown is placed in one single visit. For the two-visit crowns, we make a mold of the tooth during your first visit, and place it in your second visit. To protect the tooth until the second visit, we place a temporary crown. After the procedure, it is important to look after your crown; therefore we will give you specific instructions on long-term care. Our office of highly trained dentists awaits you. Call us today at 612.789.3573 if you would like more information on crowns or to schedule a visit with one of our highly trained dental team.
